South-East Coast – Bwejuu & Dongwe
beach walks & relaxation
The Chaka Bay on the eastern side of Zanzibar divides the coast into two beach sections. The south-east coast is just as beautiful as the north-east coast in terms of its powder-white beaches, palm trees and turquoise water with its offshore barrier reef. Tidal changes play a major role and swimming might not be possible the entire day – a lodge with a swimming pool is therefore handy to cool down during the day.
The range of beach resorts in this area is probably the most diverse in Zanzibar. Please note that the local people live from fishing and the cultivation of seaweed, so you might find some seaweed along the beach. If you would like to visit Jozani Forest, then this part of Zanzibar is better suited due to the short distance drive for the activities on land.
